Event description

Description

In this public forum, scholars from UWA Asian Studies will highlight aspects of their research by discussing current topics in the Asian region and conveying why researching Asia matters now perhaps more than ever. Topics will include: the importance of learning Asian languages; demographic shifts in the region; the relevance to Australia of social and political dynamics in countries like Indonesia and China; and using popular culture to understand Asia.

Each participant will briefly (in a few minutes) address one of the topics, using it as a springboard to facilitate discussion and interaction with members of the audience. The forum will thus showcase to the wider community, the diverse research conducted by UWA Asian Studies scholars, and, importantly, the relevance of this research to Western Australia and Australia.
