Event description

Description

Join us on Wednesday, April 25th from 6:30-8:30pm as we launch our new “Who’s Who” event series!

Coinciding with Fashion Revolution Week, this series will shine a light on movers-and-shakers in fashion and textiles related fields introducing you to new brands, ideas and connections with a sustainable focus. Fashion Revolution Week marks the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza disaster and is a week of reflection, activism, and focus on creating positive change in the fashion industry. This first Who's Who event will introduce you to the ideas behind the Fashion Revolution movement and how Redress Raleigh is manifesting these ideas locally to revolutionize fashion and textiles.

We'll enjoy tasty snacks upstairs in the mezzanine at Trophy Tap + Table while hearing from three local speakers:

  • Kendra Leonard | Owner of Art of Style boutique
  • Lisbeth Arias | Owner of emerging fair-trade brand Descalza
  • Amanda Astor | Community Education Specialist for the City of Raleigh Solid Waste department, who will explain their new curbside textile recycling program.

Your $15 ticket includes light appetizers in addition to admission to the event. A cash bar will be available as well as plenty of time for Q&A and socializing.

About Our Speakers

KENDRA LEONARD

After a series of major life events, Kendra Leonard took control, combining her passion for people and clothing into Raleigh-based store, The Art of Style. In addition to being an Amazon-ranked author and one of Raleigh’s ‘Top 5 Most Stylish’ people, Kendra has been named The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 'Woman of the Year,' having raised over $100,000 to date. Her clothing store has been awarded 'Most Unique Boutique' and 'Best Boutique for Men & Women' in Raleigh.

LISBETH ARIAS

Born in El Salvador & raised in N.C., Lisbeth Carolina Arias has woven her immigration story into a Latino-inspired fashion label that fuses fair trade textiles & modern style. Descalza (meaning barefoot in Spanish) empowers communities through artisanal fabrics. As a handcrafted fashion label, Descalza collaborates with artisans from Latin America to create statement pieces that tell a story.

AMANDA ASTOR

Amanda Astor is Community Education Specialist for the City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department & project manager for Raleigh’s curbside textile recycling program. She deals with all things recycling – from leading tours of Raleigh’s material recovery facility, to answering questions like “What happens to my plastic bottle after I toss it in that blue cart?”
