Event description

Description

Foster parents, adoptive parents, teachers, social workers, counselors, ministry staff and others who serve vulnerable children in the Nashville area are invited to a day of trauma-sensitive continuing education January 27, 2018.

The Whole Child Intensive, sponsored by the Southeast Produce Council, will provide continuing education credits to social workers (6 units) and foster parents. The Intensive is hosted by The Glade Church in Mount Juliet and features local presenters who can connect caregivers and professionals to trauma-sensitive resources in the area. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the event ends at 5:15 p.m. Childcare and lunch are provided.

Keynote Speakers

Paris Goodyear-Brown, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor with 20 years of experience in treating children and families who struggle to connect. She is the Clinical Director and Senior Clinician of Nurture House, has authored many books about child therapy and is a sought-after speaker all over the world. Paris will open our time together sharing The Whole Story: Helping Caregivers Hold Hard Stories.

Chris Troutt has a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner. In addition to her role as therapist, Chris serves as the Papillion Center’s Executive Director. She is also Mom to twelve children and Grand-mom to seventeen grandchildren. Having parented children from hard places, she brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to the table. She understands the importance of holistic self-care. We are excited to have her wrap up our time together encouraging us to care for ourselves as we care for vulnerable children.

The event breakouts are designed to teach attendees trauma responsive strategies for meeting the unique needs of the children in their homes, churches, and classrooms. Our breakout presenters represent an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience from local resources that exist for the purpose of restoring the whole child. Breakout presenters include Lauren Strickland, LICSW, PIP, Whole Child Initiative, Allison Cooke Douglas, Harmony Family Center, Mary Beth Bragg, LBSW, Lifeline Children's Services, Miranda Pool, M.Ed, NCC, RYT-200, Melody Aguayo, PhD, Real Child Consulting, and Lauren Dickson, MSW, STARS Nashville.
