About the Conference
Whole Child Conference 2017 is a weekend to strengthen the caregiving community by encouraging and educating caregivers while they experience a community of other caregivers fighting the same fight. It was developed to fill a resource gap in the caregiving community.
“We want to bring caregivers to a comfortable place they can relax away from the daily grind while absorbing the wisdom of other caregivers involved in the same mission. It also gives us at the Whole Child Initiative a chance to see all the faces changing the world and express our appreciation.”
-Drake Bassett, President and CEO
No single caregiver or couple has all the answers, creating a need for a community of learning, caring and fellowship. Caregivers must have ongoing training and support in order to minister to the whole child. The Whole Child Conference is a place for caregivers to come together in fellowship with a common goal, struggle, and passion. This conference is more than a course, it’s a community where concerns, doubts, fears, and shortcomings can be expressed and addressed directly. Caregivers cannot and should not do this on their own. We want to bring caregivers to a place they could be encouraged and informed on a variety of topics that support their efforts to care for children.
The Whole Child Conference was developed with one goal in mind, equipping caregivers to care for the children cast aside by the rest of the world. Attendees will not only hear from influential voices in the caregiving community, but have access to game-changing resources and a community of caregivers working alongside each other to change the world. Our speakers and organizers are planning every aspect of this conference so that attendees leave a better, more prepared, and more confident caregiver.
Whole Child Conference speakers are more than teachers, they’re doers who have stood in the shoes of the attendees, who will listen to and learn from speakers who are influential not for what they’ve said, but what they’ve done. Whole Child Conference speakers talk about everything from what the bible tells us about orphan care to practical advice on fostering relationships between foster children and their incarcerated families.
Whole Child Conference was established along the guidelines of the Whole Child Initiative, which teaches caregivers not to disproportionately focus on the glaringly obvious problems in a child’s life, but instead minister to the whole needs of a child — Physical, Educational, Emotional, and Spiritual (each breakout session will focus on one of these four topics). Breakout sessions for the Whole Child Conference are developed to stretch minds beyond predictable caregiver discussions to practical needs and practices. These sessions will cover topics from caring across cultures to caring for trafficking victims and dealing with eating disorders. We know each area of a child’s life affects the other and no child is without value, dignity and worth.
