About this Event

The Carers Trust estimate that there are 800,000 young carers across the UK. 6000 of these young people are living in Northamptonshire. A young carer is anybody under the age of 25 who looks after a family member or friend who sufferers from a physical or mental illness, is disabled or misuses drugs/ alcohol. Young carers were recently referred to as ‘the hidden army’. I want to make them more visible. I have been caring for my mum for over 12 years now and I am doing this talk in order to share my experiences and attempt to raise a little awareness. On a Monday, I am a student. On a Tuesday, I am a patient. On a Wednesday, I am an employee. Every day, I am a young carer.

As an aside, I would really appreciate it if you could bring a feminine hygiene/sanitary product with you (sanitary towels, tampons etc.) This isn’t obligatory and I will not be asking who has brought them or who has not. I will leave a box by the entrance/exit and if you feel able to, I would be very grateful if you could put it in there at the beginning/end. Please only do this is you are financially able and feel comfortable doing so. I will explain as part of my talk why I am asking you to do this. These products do not need to be branded or expensive.
