On Saturday, May 2, the Whitney will host a block party on Gansevoort Street starting at 10:00 am. Created in the spirit of a neighborhood festival, the Whitney Block Party will welcome visitors of all ages with free art and performance, including hands-on activities and participatory events.
Throughout the day, booths designed by a diverse group of contemporary artists and community organizations will offer activities for a range of audiences, including karaoke, map making, and performance workshops. At the MPIA booth, an expert tour guide will take a small group around the Meatpacking District to explore the history, architecture and spirit of the neighborhood.
A 40-minute tour of the Historical Meatpacking District will occur at noon, 1pm and 2pm. RSVP is required. Arrive 5 minutes before the start of the tour to check-in at the MPIA booth. Sign-ups on the day of may be available but not guaranteed.
The Meatpacking District Improvement Association (MPIA) is a local nonprofit business alliance that works to beautify and maintain the neighborhood as well as run a district-wide PR and marketing campaign.
