Event description

Description

Are you someone who is negatively impacted by a nearby factory farm (aka concentrated Animal Feeding Operation or CAFO)? Or are you simply a concerned citizen seeking empowerment to act on behalf of Indiana’s environment?

Join the Hoosier Environmental Council’s Senior Staff Attorney and Director of Agriculture Policy, Kim Ferraro, on Saturday October 21st from 10am-2pm for an educational workshop on CAFOs in community room A of the South Whitley Community Public Library. Learn about the impacts of CAFOs on Indiana’s environment, economy, and human health, alternatives for economic development, the role that food choice plays in ensuring a healthy environment for all, and what you can do to advance the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system!

This workshop will contain information relevant to both Whitley and Allen Counties.

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION INCLUDE:

  • Protecting your community against the irresponsible siting of new CAFOs
  • Ensuring that existing CAFOs are following the law
  • Becoming a more effective advocate in pushing for greater local and state protections
