Description

Carol Anderson is Charles Howard Candler Professor and Chair of African American Studies at Emory University. Professor Anderson is the author of White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide, is a New York Times Bestseller, Race and Civil Rights of August 2016, and was a New York Times Editor's Pick for July 2016. In March 2017, it won the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism.

Professor Anderson was a member of the U.S. State Department’s Historical Advisory Committee and is currently on the Board of Directors of the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Miami University, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Political Science, International Relations, and History. She earned her Ph.D. in history from The Ohio State University.

“Few historians write with the grace, clarity, and intellectual verve Carol Anderson summons in this book. We are tethered to history, and with White Rage, Anderson adeptly highlights both that past and the tenacious grip race holds on the present. There is a handful of writers whose work I consider indispensable. Professor Anderson is high up on that list.” – William Jelani Cobb, author of THE SUBSTANCE OF HOPE,
