Description

Update! New Location: 436 14th Street, Suite 200 Oakland, CA, right at 14th and Broadway

Who We Are: We are a group of white (trans and non-trans) men who understand white supremacy and patriarchy as intertwining systems of oppression that perpetuate horrendous material and psychological violence worldwide. As folks who may receive both white and male privilege , we believe we can, and must, play a role in undermining these systems. We are in the early stages of figuring out what kind of action makes the most sense for this group, but are determined to take effective action. We seek to do so in ways that are accountable to - and center the experiences, wisdom and visions of - those most impacted by these systems of oppression. We also know that we too must “get free” from these oppressions.

Our Goals: We're inviting white (trans and non-trans) men who are already involved in social justice projects, or have an interest in getting involved, to participate in a workshop on March 20th. Our primary goal for this workshop is to develop white men's political analysis and discuss ways for white men to do political work accountably. Relying on frameworks developed by black and third world feminists, we'll deepen our understanding of overlapping oppressions, explore the ways that white men are expected to uphold this system, and share thoughts on what a white male anti-racist feminism might look like in practice. A secondary goal of this workshop is to meet other white men interested in this work and begin building a group of folks interested in exploring how white men can, together, be using our privilege to best support efforts at destroying white and male supremacy.
