About Rick Edwards:
For a third-generation Scottish-American like Rick Edwards, Master of Scotch would seem like a natural ambition. But he didn’t take a straight path to make fine spirits his life’s pursuit; he took a couple detours along the way.

Born in Des Moines, Rick spent most of his teens in Minneapolis before enlisting at age 17 in the U.S. Army as an infantry paratrooper in 1986. “Keeper of the Wings” for his class, he was the youngest soldier to complete Airborne School. Rick’s assignments included “The Old Guard” (the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, the Army’s oldest active-duty infantry unit) and the Arctic Light Fighter Unit (ALF) at Fort Richardson, Alaska. There he was sent to Air Assault School, becoming a Rappel Master and earning his Expert Infantry Badge. (These are just a few highlights of Sgt. Edwards’ six years of service to his country.)

After leaving the Army, Rick moved to California to pursue a career in acting. He landed recurring roles on Melrose Place and The Young and the Restless, where he could be found behind the bar at Gina’s Place—despite never actually working as a bartender. He got his big break, however, when he met his mentor, the legendary Evan Cattanach, Master Keeper of the Quaich, Master Distiller Emeritus, Distillery Manager and Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

For ten years, Rick worked on The Classic Malts Selection with Diageo at several distilleries in various positions, rising from Brand Builder to Brand Ambassador to National Mentor. In 2001, he was invited to Diageo’s Malt Advocate Academy at the Royal Lochnager distillery, earning Master of Scotch Knowledge honors. Rick has since augmented his training, attending the Chivas Bros. Master Course at Strathisla Distillery in 2009 and the Irish Whiskey Academy at the Midleton Distillery just this year.

Pernod Ricard USA hired Rick in 2007 to be Brand Ambassador for The Glenlivet; he now represents the company’s entire portfolio of single malt and single pot still whiskeys. Named an Icon of Whisky by Whisky Magazine as American Brand Ambassador of the Year in 2015, he has been featured in other trade publications, such as Tasting Panel, Whisky Life and Wine Spectator. Rick also judges spirit competitions and is a familiar face on whiskey panels. After more than 20 years in the industry, he frequently returns to Hollywood, starring as facilitator of celebrity whiskey tastings.
