Event description

Description

On Friday, July 19, 2019, the Bradford House Historical Association will be holding its 11th annual Whiskey Rebellion Dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour replete with Whiskey Rebellion rebels, members of the Beam Suntory (https://www.beamsuntory.com/en)and fellow friends of the House and the whiskey – a great start to an evening of celebration and distilled spirits!

Dinner begins at 7:00p.m. with a delicious barbecue themed meal, and an equally delightful flight of incredible Beam Suntory’s collection o of spirits. Entertainment during the evening will include a musical skit by the street actors from the Whiskey Rebellion Festival and the chance to enjoy the camaraderie of the rejection of Alexander Hamilton’s unfairly assessed tax.

The event raises funds to support and maintain the David Bradford House – a National Historic Landmark. Continued support from donors is key in maintaining this important piece of this Nation’s history. There will be many unique silent auction items donated by local businesses and supporters. The highlight of the evening’s live auction will be the offering of a rare and exclusive blend of Pennsylvania rye whiskeys.

Most importantly, the evening will honor Margaretta D. Stewart, who, in 1957, made the preservation of the Bradford House become a reality. The owner and publisher of the two Washington daily newspapers, The Observer and The Reporter, it was Mrs. Stewart who recognized that the City of Washington’s most important historical site was too essential to lose. The brave farmers that lived in southwestern Pennsylvania had shaped the early decisions of the federal government and had long gone unappreciated. Through her fundraising efforts, Mrs. Stewart saved the Bradford House from demolition by petitioning state government officials to allow the purchase and preservation of the house.

Seating is limited. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to continue Mrs. Stewart’s work of preserving the Bradford House Museum.
