Description

Where is My Space?

The Lower-Midwest Chapter of NADOHE is excited to host its inaugural conference on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. We are grateful to Kent State University for serving as the host institution.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Where is my space?”. This theme will explore the question that many marginalized groups of students, staff and faculty are asking on college campuses. In our current culture there is an increase of division and exclusionary rhetoric which has led to many to question their social, emotional, psychological and physical safety. According to Abraham Maslow humans much meet their basic needs such as physical and safety before being able to thrive. Because for many on our campuses the basic needs are not met it leaves us to question where we belong.

This conference will provide the opportunity to explore the idea of space and being inclusive from different perspectives of the various groups that exist on college campuses.

The learning outcomes for this conference will be that participants will be able to:

· Identify the importance of having space

· Define the space in which we occupy in our respective roles and campuses

· Develop a plan to create inclusive spaces on our respective campuses to foster growth and inspiration.
