Description

Where does our food come from? Join us for a week of exploring our food, starting with a visit to a RambleRill farm and ending with making our own pizza at Radius Pizzeria!

This camp will run from July 10-14, from 8 am to 12 pm. Care from 12 pm to 1 pm is available for an additional fee of $5 per day per child.

We'll spend Monday at RambleRill Farm, learning about planting and harvesting local crops. Tuesday and Thursday will start at Gold Park, and then after our wiggles are out, we'll walk the Riverwalk and a block up to K's Closet's classroom at 108 West Margaret Lane in beautiful historic downtown Hillsborough. In the classroom, we'll plant our own beans, make butter and edible play doh, and learn about some more of our favorite foods, like ice cream, popcorn, and raisins. We'll experiment a little and learn a lot. Wednesday will hopefully include a tour of the Weaver Street Market Distribution Center (We are finalizing the details for this tour now!), and we'll finish the day with open play at Gold Park. Friday will begin in the classroom and end at our favorite local hot spot - Radius Pizzeria!, where we'll meet the owner, tour the kitchen, and have our own personal chef help us make our own pizzas!

This camp will serve 4-6 year olds. We intend to work with common food allergens, including dairy, gluten, and possibly peanuts. If your child has a food allergy, please communicate with us in advance so that we can do our best to make accommodations. Please note that our classroom is on the second floor of a building that has no elevator.

We will provide healthy snacks, such as popcorn, grapes, apples, carrots, crackers, and cheese or butter. You will need to send your child in comfortable closed toe shoes as well as weather appropriate attire and provide sunscreen and hats as needed. July can be very hot. Your child should have a refillable water bottle with water only. We'll ask you to bring an extra outfit to leave with us, just in case.

Pick up and drop off will be at RambleRill Farm on Monday. On Tuesday and Thursday, drop off will be at Gold Park (weather permitting), and pick up will be at K's Closet. Wednesday drop off will be at K's Closet, and pick up will be at Gold Park. Friday drop off will be at K's Closet, and pick up will be at Radius. We know that's a lot to keep track of and will send parents a schedule for simplicity.

Your lead teacher will be Cary Ellis. Caryn is a pediatric occupational therapist for Orange County Schools and excited to be leading the camp this summer. She moved to Hillsborough this past year and is looking forward to integrating the proximity of local businesses and culture into the camp. Her assistant will be Hillsborough resident Brooke Asbury. Brooke has worked with K's Closet for nearly 2 years and is a young lady with a great love for children. Back up care will be provided by K's Closet owner Sharyn Arai.

Please note that there is a minimum enrollment requirement that must be met before this camp can take place. If the camp should not meet minimum enrollment, you will be contacted about a refund or reschedule no less than 14 days prior to the start of the camp.

The cost for this camp is $169 for the week. You can register via EventBrite or bring a check into the store at 108 West Margaret Lane in downtown Hillsborough during our regular retail hours.
