About this event

Remember that time you weren’t sure where to place that plastic container or random item that had a recycling symbol so you tossed it into the recycling bin in hopes someone can magically recycle it? Or perhaps you save your items to drop into a hard to recycle station when it’s convenient. When you wish upon a recycling bin, you can actually be doing more harm than good. We rely heavily upon recycling, but do we know what’s really happening to our items? What are the myths we have been told? Are we actually doing better for the environment? In celebration of Global Recycling Day, join Women in Sustainability in partnership with The Conscious Merchant, On the Move with Vail and The Green Collective on Thursday, March 10 from 5pm - 8pm as we have the hard conversation about wishcycling and how we need to rethink our recycling habits. We will be joined by a panel of waste experts (tba) to discuss what is happening to our items when we toss them into a bin in hopes they will magically be recycled. It makes no difference who you are, come with questions and leave with the tools and resources to let your eco-conscience be your guide to make our dreams for a better future come true.

The panel will be held at milehimodern offices located at 2015 West 32nd Avenue followed by drinks, snacks and deeper conversation at the Green Collective Eatery across the street at 2158 W 32nd Ave Unit 100.

Women in Sustainability

Women in Sustainability's (WIS) mission is to change the status quo of the environmental movement to save the planet and create an equitable future through community engagement, collaboration and action. With a focus on Community, Advocacy, Resources and Education, WIS provides a safe space for like-minded individuals that CARE for the planet to create purposeful connections and meaningful change that benefits the planet and all groups including, but not limited to, BIPOC, LGBTQIIA+, and persons with disabilities.

We encourage our members to challenge the status quo and each other's views, however, we focus on this with civil discourse and positivity. WIS has a no tolerance policy and any individual that makes negative or ill-will comments towards other attendees will be immediately asked to leave the event. Please engage in conversation that "challenges ideas, not the person."

COVID Guidelines:

This event will be held indoors and proof of vaccine or COVID negative test taken w/in 72 hours may be required. In addition, WIS follows all CDC, State, City and venue protocols that are in place at the time of the event. We ask that all attendees follow the required guidelines for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals including wearing a mask. Regardless of your vaccination status, if you are not feeling well or have come in contact with someone with the COVID-19 virus, please do not attend this event. We appreciate your help in keeping our community and their family members safe during these continued unprecedented times. In addition, WIS implements a COVID conscious name tag system for all attendees based on their level of comfort of contact (green = hugs & handshakes, yellow = handshakes & high fives, red = toe taps and air high fives).
