Event description
"When They See Us, " an 8.0 hour CLE will include excerpts from the Netflix series, continental breakfast, and lunch.

About this Event

WHEN THEY SEE US, written and produced by Ava Duvernay, is the inspiration for the Delta Foundation CLE series kickoff. The story reframes the 1989 "Central Park Five" tragedy. Parts 1 & 2 of the compelling, award-winning Netflix series will be screened at the CLE. This portrayal of wrongfully convicted minority youth has generated ongoing buzz, not only because of its actors and awards, but also because of its disturbing "ripped from the headlines" content.

We will go beyond emotion to visit many of the legal issues that arose in the case. Racial profiling, prosecutorial discretion, and police tactics will be examined. This unique 8.0 hour CLE, which includes 1.5 hours of professional conduct, will conclude with a panel discussion that explores how this travesty of justice occurred.

Continental breakfast and boxed lunch is included in the introductory price of $130.00 for Lawyers; $35 for students.

Registration: Will open at 7:30 am. Showing of part one of the Netflix series will begin promptly at 8:30 am. Materials may be emailed to attendees.
