Event description

Description

Presenter: Karen Shore, PhD, CGP, ABPP

When a group works together on dreams, the many feelings and associations generated provides a powerful experience, enriching insight and deepening bonds.

Course Description

In this workshop, Dr. Shore will discuss the concept of the two types of “group dream” and provide an example of each type. One type is a dream about the group, common to ongoing groups. This form of group dream sheds light on the dreamer’s sense of self and sense of other group members, as well as the dreamer’s sense of the group’s functioning. Another form of “group dream” is the dream that is shared with other members and used as a stimulus for work by all members of the group.

There will also be an experiential Dream Association Demonstration Group in which each member can reach into his/her less conscious mind by working together with one member’s dream. Attendees are encouraged to offer a recent dream to the group. Confidentiality will be emphasized.

The process will help each group member explore feelings, associations, and memories that are elicited by the dream. As group members share their experience with the dream, they will likely experience a deeper understanding of self than is usually found in dream work as well as a sense of intimacy with other group members.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will:

  1. Define the two types of “group dream”
  2. Describe how to provide safety for group members as they work together using a shared dream
  3. Describe the process of maximizing emotional experiencing during group work with dreams
  4. Describe the basics of the process of the Dream Appreciation Group experience

3 CEUs will be given for attendance.

Volunteers among the attendees will form a Dream Appreciation Demonstration Group. Dr. Shore will guide the group through an experiential process using an attendee’s dream that will be shared with and worked on by all members of the Demonstration Group. While we will want at least three members of the Demonstration Group to have a recent un-analyzed dream to offer, it is not necessary that all Demonstration Group members have a dream to offer.
