Description
Women's-only action sports photography workshop! Well-known female photographers.
Female athletes. Female staff. And only 20 participants. Looks like you get to be one of them!
Our inagural Wheelhouse Workshop is at Snowbird Resort & Alpha Coffee Shop March 23- 25, 2018 and will be taught by photographers Re Wikstrom, Abby Cooper, and The Wheelie Creative crew.
Re Wikstrom has mountain biked in Canada, rafted along the Idaho-Oregon border, ski toured in the Arctic, and traveled to many a wild place --and all alongside strong, inspiring women. Her mission is close to her heart: to use photography to bring female athletes to the forefront of the outdoor world. With a BFA in Photography and Visual Media from RIT, numerous local and international publications, and her role as Senior Photographer and Photo Manager at Backcountry.com, Re’s work is as much a product of her dedication and experience as it is passion. She counts fresh air and sunshine among her basic needs, and jumps at any chance to trade laughs around a campfire.
A lover of all things outdoors, Abby Cooper is a splitboarder, adventurer, year-round snow seeker, photographer, and writer. She’s living life one adventure to the next with her dog by her side. Her career as a photographer in the outdoor industry often takes her across the globe and out of her current snowglobe of a home in Whistler BC. Whitefish is near and dear to her heart as she spent 4 years here before venturing back to her Canadian roots. Abby is supported both in front and behind the camera by Arc’teryx, Karakoram, Smith Optics, and G3gear.
Abby's favorites: F-stop Tilopa Pack, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 and a clean google wipe!
Recommended: A bag that keeps your gear dry, warm gloves or mitts you can shoot with (yes I shoot in mitts because my hands freeze! although it is an art!), extra battery, 16 or 32GB card, the camera gear you want to master!
Abby will be coming at us from an editorial perspective and will be teaching How to Tell the Story of a Day instead of focusing on just getting action shots. Her perspecitive on lifestyle action sports photography adds to her action portfolio, and she is going to teach you how to do this, too.

FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18 and up.
Do I need to be an advanced photographer?
No! You may be any level you'd like. We do want you to be familar with the camera you are using so we can focus more on action sports techniques and less on camera basics. If you want to pursue a career in this and are seeking advanced techniques, you will also find value in the workshop. Come as you are. Let's take photos.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
You can fly into Salt Lake City or drive. The clinic is held in Cottonwood Heights, which is at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Snowbird is up Little Cottonwood Canyon, so if you are getting a hotel or vrbo, we recommend doing so in Cottonwood Heights rather than downtown SLC. We recommend carpooling up to Snowbird for the on-snow demo on Saturday. See lodging details below.
What can I bring into the event?
Any camera gear that you would like to master. We do not supply camera gear. Also bring a backpack with plenty of warm layers and extra gloves. We recommend wearing thick baselayers since you will be standing and photographing more than skiing. This event is on-snow, so you need skis or snowboard and intermediate skills with them. You need to be able to ski and ride with a pack. You need a laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed.
Do I need a lift ticket for Saturday's on-snow clinic?
One single-day lift ticket is included in the price of the event.
Where can I rent ski/snowboard gear?
