Description

With film screenings, panel discussions, and networking, the Wheaton Film Festival is a great showcase for filmmakers from the Greater DC area [Maryland, DC, Virginia]. Everyone is invited to come to Chuck Levin's Music Center [Performance Space] in Wheaton on Friday, October 23, at 3:30 pm.

Full Schedule:
3:30pm - 4pm Doors Open, informal networking, welcome
4pm - 6:10pm PANEL DISCUSSIONS
6:10pm - 6:30 pm Networking, refreshments available, and gear exhibition [part 1]
6:30pm - 7:10 pm Networking, refreshments, and gear exhibition [part 2]
7:10pm to 9:10pm FILM SCREENINGS
9:10pm - 9:30pm Award Presentatons and Closing Comments

We will have two education panels from 4pm - 6:10pm:
• Filmmaking A to Z - a discussion of the process of filmmaking and distribution.
• Entertainment Law 101 - presented by Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA)

Networking reception will follow the panels. [Dinner will be available for sale from local restaurants.]

Speaker Information:
• Pierre Bagley has more than 35 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry. Pierre served as the director of the DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) from 2014 to 2015. Bagley is the producer, director, and co-writer of the independent feature From the Rough, starring academy award nominees, Taraji P. Henson (Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), and British actor Tom Felton (Harry Potter). He guided the project from development to production in less than six months and raised nearly $7.5 million in equity to complete the film. Other recent projects include two critically-acclaimed documentaries, A Legacy of Leadership, hosted by Sidney Poitier; and LAPD: Transforming the Dream, commissioned by former LAPD Police Chief, and current NYPD Police Commissioner, William H. Bratton.

• Adam Levin comes to us from Chuck Levin's Music Center, the largest independent music store in the country. Opened in 1958, it is still family owned and operated by the Levin Family. Adam received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis has vast experience with the huge array of audio and recording equipment available. Adam has worked with clients ranging from large corporations to indie filmmakers to help find the right tools and solutions.

• John Mason, of WALA, Copyright Counselors LLC and Mason Literary, is a Washington D.C. based art and entertainment and intellectual property attorney and literary agent. His practice focuses on copyright and trademark registrations and transactional matters, litigation, copyright infringement, publishing and media issues, defamation, licensing and contracts, and commercial matters relating to creative industries.

Film Screenings will take place from 7:10pm - 9:10pm.

The filmmakers will get to introduce their film live to the attending audience and answer some brief Q&A.

This event is produced by Arune Labs, co-produced by Chuck Levin's Music Center and supported in part by the Montgomery County government, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, WALA, Gandhi Brigade Youth Media, DC Media Makers, DC Filmmakers, Docs In Progress, Adobe Software, and Final Draft Software.

In addition to live events, the project will also produce audio and video content from the live events in order to help create long-term benefits for the artists, local businesses, and the community.
