Description

Community admission seating is first come, first served so please arrive early if have community tickets. [Those who purchase patron tickets are guaranteed seating.] The Wheaton Art Festival is an exciting event for local artists and art enthusiasts to share work, learn, and network. A selection of diverse artists [established artists, emerging artists, students] will show and discuss their art with attendees. Types of art may include paintings, sculpture, mixed media, photography and more. Everyone is invited to come to Chuck Levin's Music Center [Performance Space] in Wheaton on Friday, November 13, at 3:30 pm. The event is FREE to the public subject to seating availability.

Full Schedule:
3:30pm - 4pm Doors Open, informal networking, welcome
4pm - 6:10pm PANEL DISCUSSIONS:
• Funding Your Creative Project with Matthew Lesko
• Law For Artists and Creative Professionals with Janet Fries, Esq. and Beverly Davis, Esq. [presented by Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA)]

6:10pm - 6:30 pm Networking, refreshments available from Linda's Luncheonette food truck [part 1]
6:30pm - 7:00 pm Networking, refreshments available from Linda's Luncheonette food truck [part 2]
7:00pm to 9:10pm ART EXHIBITION SHOWCASE:
• Juried showcase & Artist discussion,
• Artist talk [selected non-juried works], and
• Community show & tell.
9:10pm - 9:30pm Closing Comments
9:30 - Midnight AFTER PARTY at Unplugged Restaurant & Bar.

Here is more information on our Speakers:

Matthew Lesko is a best-selling American author, grant researcher, and television personality. He has written more than twenty books telling people how to get money for their projects. Lesko offers services for government grants, government loans, grants & free money. He is popularly known as "that question mark guy" for the Riddler-like suits that he wears in his television commercials, infomercials, and interviews.

Janet Fries is of counsel in Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on copyright and trademark law, entertainment law and Internet law. Janet has represented numerous authors, artists, collectors, estates, art organizations, musicians, producers and Internet companies in connection with issues involving contract negotiation and preparation, Web site review, copyright and trademark protection, and enforcement and related matters. A frequent lecturer, Janet has published a number of articles on copyright and related topics. She is fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a member of the board of directors of Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, and vice chair of the Arts and Cultural Law Committee for the Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar. Janet also serves as an adviser on the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Copyright project. Janet co-teaches “Legal Issues in Arts Management,” a graduate seminar at George Mason University and “Art, Cultural Heritage & the Law” a seminar at George Washington University Law School.

Beverly Davis is the founder of Davis Law, PLLC – a Washington, D.C.-based law firm providing legal services to businesses, nonprofits, and creative professionals in the areas of entertainment, trademark, copyright, labor, and employment law. She launched the firm in April 2014 to fulfill her dream of being an entrepreneur in service to creative industries. During her 20-year legal career, Beverly has worked as an attorney with government agencies, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, a Texas law firm, an international insurance company, and as senior-level in-house counsel with National Public Radio, Inc. and Southwest Airlines Co. where she advised senior executives and leaders on labor, employment, and entertainment issues. She is licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C., Texas, and California and focuses her practice on entertainment law, trademark and copyright law, and labor and employment law.

The Wheaton Art Festival is part of the Wheaton Art and Culture Series ("WACS"), which consists of 3 live pop-up events held at Chuck Levin's Music Center in the Wheaton Urban District. [www.wacseries.com]

This event is produced by Arune Labs, co-produced by Chuck Levin's Music Center and supported in part by the Montgomery County government, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, WALA, Curacion Spa and Success Sanctuary Gandhi Brigade, DC Media Makers, DC Filmmakers, Docs In Progress, Adobe Software, and Final Draft Software.

In addition to live events, the project will also produce audio and video content from the live events in order to help create long-term benefits for the artists, local businesses, and the community.
