Event description

Description

Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency have been in the headlines a lot in recent months. There’s plenty of curiosity and confusion about what it is, how it works, and the relationship between blockchain’s underlying technology and the role of cryptocurrency. But that confusion hasn’t stopped individuals and institutions from investing heavily, leading to a consistent global market capitalization over $200 billion. With rumors of major financial institutions opening cryptoasset trading desks, that market cap is expected to rise dramatically in the next few years.

We will provide a non-technical overview of blockchain and “distributed ledger technology” (DLT), discuss the role of cryptocurrency in open blockchains, and address some of the unique planning issues cryptoassets present for individual investors and financial custodians. We will also discuss some of the interesting problems that DLT might solve and the industries most ripe for disruption.
