Event description

Description

Join us for a panel discussion on opportunities and challenges for OTC desks in the cryptocurrency ecosystem today.

As cryptocurrency exchanges continue to proliferate and tackle some of the most visible challenges of crypto trading, a significant amount of trade volume (particularly between institutions) has been quietly growing through off-exchange OTC trading. In Circle's 2018 year in review post they announced that through their OTC business alone, they'd made more than 10,000 OTC trades in 2018, with an estimated $24 billion in volume. Cumberland, the crypto arm of Chicago trading giant DRW, has been in operation since 2014, facilitating $100,000 minimum trades in over 40 cryptoassets.

While OTC desks can provide many opportunities for crypto traders -- privacy, liquidity + flexibility across multiple exchanges, better access to trusted counterparties, reduced risk of moving prices with big transactions -- they face challenges as well, with even more under-developed infrastructure and transparency than exchanges when compared to traditional stock and commodities markets.

Join our panel of OTC brokers and high-volume traders at Boston Blockchain Week, for a discussion on the future for OTC trading of cryptocurrencies.

Panelists Include:

Brad Vopni - Head of Digital Assets at Hudson River Trading. Hudson River Trading is a New York-based multi-asset class quantitative trading firm; in 2015 the Wall Street Journal estimated they were responsible for 5% of total stock trading in the U.S. Prior to joining HRT, Brad was Director of Capital Markets with NextShares Solutions and before that he spent 8 years at Nasdaq in various senior roles such as Head of Global Software Development for INET, and Head of Business and Strategy for NASDAQ’s 3 U.S. equity markets.

Dan Matuszewski - Head of Trading at Circle. Circle actively makes markets on nearly all major exchanges globally, and provides significant scale in over the counter (OTC) trading with large institutional buyers and sellers of crypto assets. Prior to Circle, Dan traded volatility arbitrage for hedge fund Bay Hill Capital.
