Any EMU professor or staff member might at some point find him/herself needing to 'talk down' a student who presents as emotionally upset. This program will offer a few basic skills on how to de-escalate an agitated student. Although there are no guarantees, these strategies are intended to be thought provoking and if used, used in a flexible manner to increase the odds that an educator can respond efficiently and effectively to a student who presents a wide range of emotional issues. This training session merely offers options to consider when an unexpected situation occurs.
