Event description

Description

Join us for a fascinating discussion about the famed Idlewild resort community, as we examine its historical importance. Idlewild was established in the 1920s to provide a safe and sophisticated place for African Americans who were limited with many opportunities due to segregation. Idlewild, also known as, “The Black Eden”, was operational until the late 1960s. It was a retreat for African American artist, performers, singers, actors, politicians, and other professionals located in Lake County, Michigan. However little was known about Idlewild by even though it was visited by thousands of people especially the African American elite from across the country.
