Description

Does the thought of small business taxes make you cringe? Attend this workshop to learn about your federal tax obligations and responsibilities. Topics include:

  • When to apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN)
  • Basic recordkeeping requirements for tax purposes
  • Basic bookkeeping and accounting methods
  • Overview of different types of business structures
  • How to select a paid tax preparer
  • Form 1040, Schedule C and C-EZ
  • Identify and deduct business expenses
  • Calculate Net Profit or Loss
  • Self-employment Tax
  • Estimated Tax

About your instructor:

Leslie Malz is a tax practitioner at the Low Income Tax Clinic for Prairie State Legal Services. She has been with Prairie State since August 2017. Ms. Malz is a Certified Public Accountant with several years of experience in public accounting, performing tax work for individuals and business entities. She has a master’s degree in Accountancy from Loyola University Chicago and a master’s degree in Taxation from DePaul University. Ms. Malz was recently admitted to practice in the United States Tax Court as a Non-Attorney Practitioner.
