Sexual Harassment Prevention - How to Stay Compliant

We are proud to offer a webinar training on how to stay compliant with new requirements in relation to the Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act. This webinar is for local economic development organizations based in NYC, such as Business Improvement Districts, Local Development Corporation, Chambers of Commerce, Merchants Associations.

In response to the #MeToo movement, New York State and New York City now legally require written policies and annual training to combat sexual harassment in the workplace. Failure to develop a legally compliant policy or to conduct annual training places your organization at legal and financial risk. This webinar will help you understand what you need to include in your anti-harassment policy, who must be trained, what topics must be covered, and how training may be conducted.

Please note: this training is NOT the mandated sexual harassment prevention training itself. Training materials for employers' to use are posted on New York State's website: https://www.ny.gov/combating-sexual-harassment-workplace/employers.

New Sexual Harassment Requirements for Employers and Employees
Last May, Mayor de Blasio signed the Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act. This package of legislation expands the City Human Rights Law and includes new requirements for distribution and posting of materials and other mandates for all employers in New York City.
Effective September 6, 2018:
  • Employers are required to distribute a factsheet to individual employees at the time of hire which may be included in an employee handbook. The information sheet will be made available in additional languages, however, employers are only required to distribute the sheet in English.
Effective April 2019:
  • Employers with 15 or more employees are required to conduct annual anti-sexual harassment training. The Commission will launch an online training that employers may use to fulfill this requirement in 2019.
