What is a community board? What does it do? What services does it offer? How and why should we get involved with our community board? When and Where does it meet? Community Board 10 Chairperson Brian Benjamin will answer these questions when he comes to speak at Harlem Liberation School on December 13, 2016!
Successful businessman and dedicated community leader Brian Benjamin has dedicated most of his professional and personal life to serving his community. Currently Brian serves as the Chairperson of Communuity Board 10 in Central Harlem. He is also a Partner in Genesis Companies, a community-focused real estate development firm, where he is in charge of community and government relations, as well as business development. Brian has helped bring much-needed, high quality affordable housing to Harlem and, for this work he was honored with the “Man of Vision” award at the 2011 National Action Network Spring Gala.
Brian attributes his success and commitment to service to his mother and stepfather, Mrs. Yvonne Saunders and
Mr. Alvin Saunders. Mrs. Saunders retired from her position as Executive Assistant with Local 372, the union representing New York City Board of Education employees, and Mr. Saunders is a custodian and long-time union member. They instilled in Brian the importance of hard work, education, and helping others. He has stayed true to these values and made his parents proud by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from Brown University in 1998 and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard University in 2003.
