Description: Social, emotional, and academic learning (SEAL) is the process by which youth and adults acquire social and emotional intelligence to effectively apply knowledge, attitudes and skills to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions. Recently, Denver received funding to develop a systems approach for how educators, families, and communities partner to promote youths’ social, emotional, and academic learning.

This session will explain the SEAL framework, introduce strategies for learning and practicing SEAL, and generate ideas about how out-of- school time providers can champion the movement in their community.

Takeaways:

  • An overview of the Social Emotional and Academic Learning (SEAL) Initiative happening in Denver (i.e. The Who, What, Where, When and Why)
  • Learn strategies and best practices for implementing SEAL
  • Ideas for how to strengthen adult SEAL practice
  • Opportunities to share your program’s strategies and learn what other out-of-school time providers are doing related to SEAL
  • Become part of a learning community committed to creating SEAL rich environments for all youth and adults

Recommended for: Any afterschool educator interested in learning about social emotional and academic learning in Denver.
