Event description

Description

Course Description:

Despite the goal of seeking positive outcomes for clients, the busyness of most social work positions means core practice skills, such as professional commitment, self-awareness, effective communication, and personal conduct are often considered a challenge to incorporate into everyday practice. This interactive workshop provides participants with the opportunity to realistically examine the ethical dilemma this poses. Critical thinking skills, case examples, videos, role plays and research will be used to explore creative strategies and innovative ways for participants to intentionally apply such professional skills into their practice.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Gillian Berry has nearly 30 years of social work experience as a practitioner and educator. She obtained her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Birmingham University in England. She has worked full-time at the University of Botswana's Department of Social Work Southern Africa. Currently, she is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland Baltimore School Of Social Work. She has worked for Maryland DHR Department of Social Services, DC Child and Family Services, and served as a consultant providing clinical social work services in the DMV area. She presents at conferences, nationally and internationally, on professional social work practice, public child welfare, culturally appropriate practice, and personal/self-improvement. She is the author of the empowerment novel, "The Righteous Sin."
