Event description

Description

This ongoing series explores the wide range of movies that can be considered a Western. Each screening begins with a brief introduction from the guest curator. Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan will introduce The Searchers.

Throughout 2017, audience members voted for their favorite Western. This year’s selection is The Searchers, John Ford’s monumental tale of an uncle’s search for a girl abducted in 1860s Texas. Often acclaimed as one of the greatest Westerns ever made, the film influenced directors such as Spielberg, Scorsese, and Lucas. John Wayne’s portrayal of the racist and vengeful Ethan Edwards is both powerful and troubling.

Directed by John Ford | Starring John Wayne, Natalie Wood, and Jeffrey Hunter | Screened in 35mm
