Event description

Description

Suicide intervention and postvention expert Barb Smith will help you develop a better understanding of suicide and how to help families who often have many unanswered questions. Case stories of survivors will be shared to demonstrate how to offer encouragement and hope, using words that help rather than hurt.

This workshop is ideal for schools, faith leaders, mental health providers, EAPS, social workers, grief support services, and support group leaders. (A separate workshop for law enforcement, EMS, chaplains, medical staff & medical examiners is being held in the morning).

Date: February 9th, 2018

Time: 12:30 - 2:30 pm

Location: FWCS Family and Community Engagement Center, 230 E Douglas Ave, Fort Wayne, IN (parking in Anthis parking lot)

Cost: $15

Presenter: Barb Smith is the founder and facilitator of the Saginaw Survivors of Suicide. This non-profit support group has been ongoing for the past 25 years. Barb works with families and friends left behind after a death by suicide as a private consultant for grief and suicide. She provides safeTALK, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and has presented the Yellow Ribbon Program to over 65,000 people throughout Michigan.

Mental health CEUs and law enforcement ILEA credit are available for this workshop. CEUs will cost an additional $5.
