What Do You Believe About God?
Led by Dr. Graham Walker
Starting Wednesday, August 12
Some might view this as “Theology 101.” The notion of theology captures how we think about God. What are the big questions about God that seem so perplexing? How does Theology help us to process what we believe so that our faith becomes clearer and more mature? Join us for this overview as Dr. Walker offers a variety of approaches that have been used by Christians over the centuries.
Using some of the opening phrases of the Apostles’ Creed, Dr. Walker will take us on a journey in theology. We’ll wade into some ways of thinking on big questions of our faith, with an eye toward current culture.
Classes are as follows:
Week one- August 12: "I believe..."
Week two- August 19:"...in God"
Week three- August 26: "...the Father Almighty,"
Week Four - September 2: "...Creator of Heaven and Earth"
Week Five - September 9:"I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord"
According to Dr. Walker,“The world in which we live in needs for all of us to become ‘theologians,’ given that ‘theology’ means reflecting about our faith. When we encounter a variety of points of view in our society today it causes us to make choices.’" This "choosing activity" is what we mean by "doing theology." As you can see, this isn't an activity for just professionals. It really means all of us. In the history of the church one of the most repeated ways this has been done has been to examine the Apostles' Creed in light of what is happening in our particular social setting.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
