Event description

Description

On July 31, 2019, the YWCA National Capital Area will be holding its next Courageous Conversation called “What DC Do You Live in? A workshop about gentrification, displacement, and race.”

Washington, D.C. is struggling to integrate new development and residents into long standing communities and culture. These changes cause disruption, displacement, and disdain. And, we need to talk to about it.

This real conversation about gentrification and race will be focused on how displacement impacts schools, communities, families, businesses and individuals, along with giving time for dialogue and sharing. We want all voices heard and encourage you to bring diverse thoughts to the table.

This workshop is part of a series of activities YWCA National Capital Area plans for this year - for community dialogue, education, and to empower each of us to take an active role in dismantling racism. Through facilitated conversations, we will explore the dynamics of race, bias, and inequity. Share and learn from your neighbors. We are stronger together in the work to eliminate racism and empower women.
