What Comfort Holds (03-05-26) IN PERSON

By Montgomery County ADAMHS

Overview

Presented by Shevonne Nelson-Dillingham, MA, CDE, Director of People and Culture at Advocates for Basic Legal Equity

This session invites participants to examine comfort not just as a personal feeling, but as a social and structural force. We’ll explore how comfort is distributed, protected, and sometimes weaponized, especially in workplaces and communities. Through reflection and dialogue, we’ll uncover how comfort intersects with power, identity, and justice, and consider what it means to stretch or share comfort in service of equity.

Maintain and expand your professional competence by exploring how comfort, often overlooked, shapes interpersonal dynamics, institutional practices, and community engagement. By examining comfort through the lenses of power, identity, and justice, participants will become more aware of emerging professional issues and develop tools to provide more equitable and responsive services. The session will foster critical reflection and offer actionable strategies to enhance ethical, inclusive, and competent practice.

**Montgomery County Ohio residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference.
