Event description

Description

Analysis conducted by the World Health Organization states that approximately 830 women from around the world die every day from pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications. Furthermore, almost 99% of these deaths occur in low-resource settings. And worse yet, most of these deaths can be been prevented.

These statistics are reflective of the inequities of access to quality antenatal care among women in the developing world, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. Without access to critical nutritional interventions, group antenatal care, infection screening, competent skilled care during childbirth and supportive postpartum care, the odds of survival for mother and baby in these low-resource settings are considerably lower than those of their counterparts in high-income countries.

This is simply not acceptable.

Although strides have been made in reducing the number of maternal and newborn deaths have been made in recent years, more can, and MUST, be done.

On Sunday, May 19, 2019, join CIFF and Jhpiego for an engaging discussion on how countries like Ethiopia and India are mitigating maternal and newborn deaths through the utilization of robust interventions and strategies in the delivery of antenatal and intrapartum care. Best practices for strengthening comprehensive reproductive, maternal and newborn health care and the importance of their inclusion into the overall framework for universal health coverage will be discussed by our esteemed panel. Members will include technical experts, advocates, policymakers and donors.
