About this Event

The Wisconsin Game Alliance is hosting a day of workshops to level up your game development skills!

Introduction to UE4 and Blueprints

9am to 12pm

Whether you're just getting started in game dev, or a seasoned Unity veteran, come get familiar with an introductory workshop on the ins and outs of using the Unreal Editor. We'll cover many topics, including: using the interface, Unreal Engine design patterns, managing game state, Widgets (UI), and scripting with Blueprints! Participants should be proficient with computers and familiar with basic game development concepts. Game engine experience (any) a big plus!

NOTE: This workshop will require participants to bring a laptop capable of running the UE4 game engine. It's important that you install the Unreal Engine 4 ahead of time to hit the ground running at 9am the day of the event. UE4 can be downloaded at https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/

Instructor:

Local developer Arthur Low (PUBG, Lost Boys, and Filament Games) will be your guide in this crash-course in UE4 game prototyping."

Source Control for Game Devs: Git and Other Tools

1pm to 3pm

Version Control is an essential part of any game developer's workflow. Learn the underlying concepts behind the popular Version Control System, "Git", and apply them across different scenarios in this hands-on workshop. Underlying version control concepts will be discussed, so that participants will be able to translate these concepts to any version control tool.

NOTE: This workshop will require participants to bring a laptop. Additionally, we suggest that you install the "git" tool ahead of time. You can download git here: https://git-scm.com/downloads

Participants should be proficient with computers, but no prior knowledge of source control is required.

Instructors:

Alicia Pressley is a Madison-based web development teacher and freelance developer. Alicia gained source control experience through working for several tech startups, and is committed to sharing that knowledge.

Phil Dougherty is the lead developer at Madison based educational games group Field Day Lab. Phil has managed many project codebases over the years using version control- most of them publicly available at github.com/Phildo"
