Western Regional Emergency Medicine Student Symposium is an exciting event hosted biannually by the Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) at University of California Irvine, School of Medicine. This year, on September 24th, medical students from all over the nation will come to sunny Southern California to learn more about the field and meet other medical students, physicians, and residency directors currently working in emergency medicine. Previous symposiums have had upwards of a hundred attendees. First and second year students are given an exciting introduction into the specialty while third and fourth years are provided with the important opportunity to network with California residency programs. This year's program includes lectures from prominent physicians in the community, ultrasound stations, simulations to give attendees hands-on practice in critical situations, and mock interviews with current residency directors. Our theme this year is innovation in emergency medicine, with the goal of highlighting many of the seamless ways development and technology have integrated into and improved both student education and patient care. Not only will the lectures discuss these applications, but our attendees will also get first hand experience using SonoSim and spending time in our state-of-the-art simulation center. We are very pleased to be hosting this popular event once again and look forward to another successful year of symposium at UC Irvine.
