The West Virginia Press Association’s Convention 2019 is Aug. 2-3 at Lakeview Golf Resort

One Lakeview Dr, Morgantown, WV 26508.

For the celebration of its 150th year of service to the newspaper industry, WVPA is taking its convention to Morgantown, the state's largest growth area and home of West Virginia University. The city, university and resort offer attendees numerous extra activities to enjoy. The WVPA staff feels certain that WVPA Convention 2019 with the 150th Celebration, West Virginia Supreme Court panel, Hall of Fame inductions, educational seminars and awards presentations offers a tremendous weekend.

The theme this year — 150 years in a State of Progress — looks at the changes, challenges and new opportunities facing both the newspaper industry and the State of West Virginia in 2019.


* THURSDAY, AUG. 1: BOARD ACTIVITIES ONLY

Noon: Registration opens

1 p.m.: WVPA/WVPS Board of Directors meetings.

3 p.m.: WVPA Foundation Trustees meeting.

6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.: Reception for boards, staff, sponsors and guests at WVU Reed College of Media Innovation Center, 4th Floor, Evansdale Crossing Building, 62 Morrill Way, Morgantown, WV 26506.

9 p.m.: Hospitality Suite opens.


FRIDAY, AUG. 2: CONVENTION 2019 BEGINS:

8 a.m.: Registration opens.

9:30 a.m.: Networking as a marketing tool: Experts in various fields of networking and marketing share knowledge and insight that will assist newspapers in expanding revneue opportunities.

Noon: Advertising Awards Luncheon.

2 p.m.: The Future of Legal Advertising in West Virginia. There will also be a discussion and dritibution of materials on advertising for alcohol, tobacco, gambling and marijuana.

4 p.m.: Conversations with West Virginia legislators.

6 p.m. until 8 p.m.: WVPA President's Reception with featured speaker Brooke Brown, wife of WVU Head Football Coach Neal Brown.

9 p.m.: Hospitality Suite opens.


SATURDAY, AUG. 3: CONVENTION 2019 CONTINUES:

8:30 a.m.: General Membership Meeting.

9:45 a.m.: Today's West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals with Chief Justice Beth Walker and Justices Margaret Workman, Tim Armstead, Evan Jenkins and John Hutchison talking about the future of the court.

Noon: WVPA Hall of Fame Luncheon.

2 p.m.: WVPA Newspaper Ownership Initative: WVU Provost Maryanne Reed and Diana Martinelli, dean of the Reed College of Media, discuss NEWStart, a community media accelerator investing in local news.

3:15 p.m.: Tourism Showcase: Tourism Commissioner Chelsea Ruby and staff discuss improvements to West Virginia State Parks, the state's marketing campaign, the visitors to state parks and outlines a program allowing journalists to experience the parks.

6 p.m.: Editorial Awards Reception and Dinner.

9 p.m.: Hospitality Suite opens.
