Event description

Description

A generation of West Virginia's kids is drowning in the devastating effects of the drug epidemic. Many have no permanent place to call home, no permanent person to call a parent, and no plan to get back on their feet. They float between government systems that they rely on for care -- like schools, or foster care, or child welfare. These systems haven't adapted to the overwhelming needs caused by the epidemic.

Many of these children have significant, unmet health care needs. Many have suffered significant trauma, have unmanaged chronic illnesses, struggle with developmental disabilities, and rarely have a medical home or intact medical history.

How can we keep these children healthy? Can we improve their ability to thrive?

Come discuss problems and solutions with our partners-- the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics-- to join a panel of experts from around the state to discuss challenges and solutions to keeping kids healthy in the face of adversity. Attendance is free. Refreshments provided. Registration encouraged.
