Event description

Description

Too many of West Virginia's children are losing parents and caregivers, friends and communities, and their sense of safety and stability to the drug crisis. With a startling increase of children born with opioid-related neonatal abstinence syndrome, removed from their homes and introduced into the foster care system, and exhibiting adverse behaviors at school, the youngest casualties of the epidemic continue to suffer at the hands of a health care system that hasn't adapted to the urgency and severity of their physical and emotional needs.

Together, we can help them. But how?

Come discuss problems and solutions with our partners-- the West Virginia Nurses Association and the Future of Nursing West Virginia-- and join a panel of experts from around the state to discuss challenges and solutions to keeping kids healthy in the face of adversity. Attendance is free. Refreshments provided. Registration encouraged.

Many of these children have significant, unmet health care needs. Many have suffered significant trauma, have unmanaged chronic illnesses, struggle with developmental disabilities, and rarely have a medical home or intact medical history.

How can we keep these children healthy? Can we improve their ability to thrive?

Come discuss problems and solutions with our partners-- the West Virginia Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Coalition-- to join a panel of experts from around the state to discuss challenges and solutions to keeping kids healthy in the face of adversity. Attendance is free. Refreshments provided. Registration encouraged.
