"Elevating Pediatric Care in the Mountain State"

Please join us for the annual spring meeting of the West Virginia Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics. This two-day seminar will provide the practitioner with information on relevant up-to-date topics in pediatrics.

Who should attend? Pediatricians, Family Practitioners, School Health Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Child Psychiatrists, Child Psychologists.

Registration includes course materials, CME credit, MOC Part II- 20 points, lunch, break, reception and dinner on Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Reservations for the reception and dinner for spouses/guests can be made for $35/person. Residents and medical students must register, but there is no charge for the meeting.

In 2019, the WV AAP is collaborating with the WV Regional Child Psychiatry Conference on Saturday afternoon. WV AAP members are invited to attend the afternoon lectures on Saturday from 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM.

This year additional registration options have been provided to meet the needs of participants. You WILL NOT need to present the Eventbrite tickets at the meeting.

Course Objectives

  • Participation at the Spring Meeting will allow attendees to be able to:

  • Implement the current AAP guidelines for high blood pressure management in children and adolescents

  • Understand the etiology and treatment of various Pediatric Dermatology disorders

  • Appreciate the implications of alcohol use in pregnancy, identify fetal alcohol syndrome and appreciate its prevalence in West Virginia

  • Reflect on the impact of implicit bias and its effect on the care of our Pediatric patients

  • Enhance participants’ pediatric knowledge base for maintenance of certification by viewing the question and answers in the resident jeopardy competition

  • Identify adverse childhood events and their impact on physical and mental well-being

  • Implement guidelines and resources regarding care of sexual and gender minority populations

  • Utilize proper terminology in sexual abuse, human trafficking, and physical assessments while enacting best practices in the evaluation and management of affected children

  • Provide education to parents and caregivers about the prevention of child abuse and neglect and utilize necessary resources to reduce risks

  • Implement motivational interviewing in daily practice to improve immunization rates

The conference will be held at the Stonewall Jackson Resort in Roanoke, WV. Rooms have been reserved at the Stonewall Jackson Resort.
