West EndTour Description

Tour Host: Liz Carney and Randy Helten

We'll start with a gorgeous view of English Bay and introduction to the West End's history, then walk in a large loop that brings in historical, cultural and architectural highlights of the neighbourhood, while visiting at least five sites (on Bidwell, Beach, Comox, Pendrell, and more) that have become hotspots for major rezoning proposals this year.

Participants will learn about the past urban planning decisions and community processes that have created the streetscape and community design we and the world love.

We will also learn about potential big changes in store for our neighborhood. Total walking distance is about two kilometres, filled with yarns, tales and information.

Tour Host Bio

Liz Carney has lived and worked in the West End for nearly 30 years and knows the history and highlights like the back of her hand. Randy Helten has walked the streets here for over ten years.

Both have been working with a growing group in the neighborhood that is interested in rezoning issues and opportunities now facing this community of more than 46,000 people and over 150 years of urban history.

Special Instructions

A notebook and good walking shoes are recommended.

This tour is wheelchair accessible.
