Event description

Description

Academic Support faculty and staff nationwide are welcome to attend the Sixth Annual West Coast Consortium of Academic Support Professionals Conference on Friday, November 3, 2017. The conference will be hosted at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, CA and it is FREE to attend.

The theme of the conference this year will be "Lost in Translation." Our Keynote Speaker will be Mr. Ron Pi, Principal Analyst for the Office of Research & Institutional Accountability at the State Bar of California. Mr. Pi organized and monitored the recent content validation workshop held at the State Bar of California and will be participating in our "lost in translation" dialogue as it relates to the bar exam and beyond.

In an increasingly connected society, law students have access to an immense amount of information. Not surprisingly, the skills required for the study of law – the ability to concentrate deeply and trace a single idea through a line of cases, and extract, synthesize and apply legal rules to varying factual contexts – have become increasingly foreign to our students and pose unique challenges to law school educators.

Come learn how law school academic support and bar exam professionals have confronted these obstacles by helping students “translate” information into understanding.

There are several options in the area, and I listed a few below (prices are approximate). San Francisco also has AirBnB.

Here are some available options that seemed reasonably priced and had decent ratings.

Galleria Park Hotel (0.3 miles) 191 Sutter Street. From $239 per night.

Orchard Garden Hotel (0.4 miles) 486 Bush Street. From $195 per night.

Hotel Triton (0.4 miles) 342 Grant Street. From $206 per night.

Grand Hyatt Hotel Union Square (0.5 miles) 345 Stockton Street. (From $249 per night.

There are many options in the area within walking distance so please research the options considering that you may have rewards points that might make pricier hotels more reasonable. There are also budget motels in the area. If you stay farther away from the University, there is always Lyft and Uber and our local buses that can get you to the University for a reasonable price. There are also hotels next to the San Francisco airport that may be more reasonable and have shuttle service to BART which is our local transit system.

What are some transportation options for getting to and from the conference?

BART will drop you one block from Golden Gate University at Montgomery Street station. There are other budget hotels in Millbrae that may have availability and are walking distance to BART. Please check with these hotels to make sure they are close to BART or have convenient shuttle service before booking. Of course Uber and Lyft are convenient options to get you to and from the BART station.
