Event description

Description

Are you a UT student living in or near West Campus? During move out, have you wondered what to do with extra stuff or thrown away unwanted belongings? Maybe you’ve never given thought to what you throw away.

We want to hear from you!

As you may know, significant volumes of material are abandoned on the curb or near dumpsters when students move in and out of apartments and houses in West Campus each year, bound for the landfill. Austin Resource Recovery is exploring ways to move this material towards a higher-and-better use, and we need your input!

Your attendance at this meeting does not obligate you to future participation. Meeting goals include:

  • Bring together students who live in or near West Campus
  • Discuss current initiatives
  • Understand current challenges and needs
  • Brainstorm potential solutions
  • Understand interest and willingness to participate in this initiative

After receiving input from students and seven other external stakeholder groups, we plan to create a working group to implement a pilot next summer. Potential benefits for this project include:

  • Moving material to benefit others in our local community
  • Increasing citywide diversion rate
  • Minimizing safety/health hazards (e.g. material in right-of-way, uncollected debris that attracts pests)
  • Cost savings for property managers and landlords
  • Decreasing complaints in the area

Dinner will be provided. Seats are limited!

*Building and room subject to change
