Talk Summary:
The maintenance of buildings and infrastructure relies heavily on a well-defined asset management strategy; to inform this, multiple stages of inspection and assessment are required. Often the first stages are purely visual, but often more insight is required, and this is gained using various non-intrusive (or ‘semi-intrusive’) investigation techniques. This talk will comprise a whistle-stop tour of the tools that I frequently use in my role as a Materials Engineer, with some asides covering various deterioration mechanism in buildings and structures.
