This retreat will provide a chance to restore, and set intentions to make well-being a priority for the new year.

About this Event

This is an opportunity to revive and restore in the midst of holidays.

Too often we sacrifice our own well-being for others. It's time to give yourself permission for a day of stillness and solitude. This retreat is intentionally designed to provide a day away after the hectic pace of the holidays.

Who Should Attend:

This is an all level workshop- for anyone who would enjoy “unplugging” for a few hours in a beautiful space. Feel free to share this invite with others in your life who would enjoy this opportunity! Consider giving this unique experience as a holiday gift to someone you know who needs to retreat for a bit.

Do I need any prior experience with mindful movement or meditation?

Absolutely not! Our experienced workshop leaders plan their sessions to benefit both beginning and experienced practitioners.

Itinerary

10:00 Opening: Present Moment Pauses to begin our day

10:30: Mindful Movement

11:30 Workshop: Simple Strategies for Restoration

1:00: Guided Hike /Birding Expedition

2:00 Workshop: Setting Intentions for the New Year

3:00 Reflections and Closing

3:30: Wine/beer/refreshments and light snacks

Weather permitting, we will take walks in the beautiful Arboretum grounds. Being in nature makes us feel good. Scientific studies have found that trees give off organic compounds that boost our immune systems. Many plants give off substances called phytoncides, which are antimicrobial organic compounds. Breathing in these substances promotes relaxation. All of this can lower blood pressure and the stress hormone cortisol and improve our mood, energy, sleep, and the ability to focus.

Please plan to bring the following:

• Comfortable clothing - dress in layers

• Outdoor attire (jacket, boots, etc.)

• Yoga mat (if you have one), blanket or warm wrap

• Water bottle/ Personal snacks

• Journal and pen

• A willingness to stretch and expand yourself :)

Workshop Providers

Lisa J. Lucas (Ed.D.): Owner of LJ Coaching & Consulting LLC

Professor-Author-Speaker-Coach-Teacher

Lisa is currently a Professor in the College of Education at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and an author, speaker, coach and consultant. She specializes in helping others achieve balance- finding the median between working to live and living to work. With over three decades of experience in education as a teacher, instructional coach, administrator, and consultant she is a life-long educator. Her workshops are designed to foster reflection and rejuvenation. Lisa’s research focuses on how to cultivate a culture of mindfulness in the midst of our overly scheduled lives. Most recently, she is investigating whether adopting deliberate habits and stress reduction strategies can help us manage the “overwhelm” and foster a more peaceful, productive, and balanced life. Her book, Practicing Presence is a compilation of simple self-care strategies, habits and resources.

Chelsea LaRose: (M.Ed.) Chelsea is an elementary school teacher who has a classroom environment that teaches students to utilize mindfulness techniques that can improve self-regulation and focus.

Colleen DeVirgiliis has been teaching yoga in Chester County, PA since 2004 in studios, health centers, schools and privately. Colleen is a yoga provider for Unite for HER, a nonprofit that offers alternative healing modalities to women diagnosed with breast cancer. She is also the Director of Training programs for the Transformation Yoga Project, a nonprofit in the Greater Philadelphia Area that offers mindfulness based movement, meditation and more to individuals impacted by trauma. Colleen leads yoga and mindfulness classes within the justice system, in recovery centers and to adolescents in behavioral health settings. She is the former director at Seva Power Yoga, a vinyasa studio in West Chester where she led classes and yoga teacher trainings for eight years.

Bronwyn Morris: LMT has been practicing massage for 15 years. She specializes in therapeutic and deep tissue techniques as well as prenatal massage. Bronwyn resides in Phoenixville, PA and is the owner and operator of B Well Massage and Holistic Therapies.
