TOUR DAY 2019: Diversity walking tour led by Janice Dilg, HistoryBuilt Historical Consulting

About this Event

TOUR DAY 2019 is dedicated to celebrating diversity within the body of modernism. However, upon further inspection, it became clear our modern resources in the central city weren't built and designed on the whole by a diverse group of persons. Yes there are some exceptions to the previous statement, but we decided to take a slight detour from our modern era.

This year we are going back in time with a diversity walking tour located in the heart of downtown Portland that highlights women, and associated sites, which predate the modern era. Since the general area of the downtown walking tour is also rich with modern era resources, attendees will be given a visual communication document that situates the women and sites of our diversity walking tour in juxtaposition to the modern era resources.

Our diversity walking tour is led by Janice Dilg, HistoryBuilt Historical Consulting.

Janice Dilg holds an MA in history from Portland State University and is the principal of HistoryBuilt, a historical consulting firm. She works with public agencies, non-profits, and historical organizations on a variety of public history programs, events, and products. Jan curated the core exhibit Discrimination and Resistance, An Oregon Primer, for the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. She is the Oregon coordinator for the National Votes for Women Trail, an online resource for the 2020 centennial commemoration of the 19th Amendment that extended voting rights to women. Jan strives to create a more inclusive history for Oregon and the Pacific Northwest through her work.
