Inquiry Science & the NGSS Science Practices
On day one, Paul Andersen will introduce inquiry-based learning as a way to engage and inspire students in the science classroom. All attendees will complete an inquiry-based science investigation and an engineering design challenge. Paul will then demonstrate specific methods of instruction for engaging the NGSS science and engineering practices. On day two, attendees will model each of the practices and learn how they can use them in their own classrooms. Specific strategies will include modeling instruction, the CER method of explanation, and the use of Science Cubes to plan inquiry activities. Attendees will have an opportunity to apply what they have learned as they write sample assessments and plan individual units around the science and engineering practices.
All levels (PK-12) welcome!
