Description

Make a silent retreat

The ancient Greek saying attributable to the philosopher Socrates states, “The unexamined life is a life not worth living”.

Take time to examine your life, faith and relationships and discover how the time-honored Office of the Hours may enrich and redirect your personal life. Two and three day retreats are led by Father Tom Bartolomeo which are available throughout the year except when noted. The retreats begin which you choose either Friday or Saturday morning and conclude either Sunday or Monday afternoon. Mass will be celebrated every morning and all retreatants are asked to maintain silence throughout their stay except for our shared meetings and meals together. Cell phones are not permitted while on retreat. If you bring a cell phone with you please leave it either in your car or with the retreat director until the close of the retreat. Emergency calls may be made to the retreat house at (815) 793-7465 and all messages will be passed on to you. Individual group retreat schedules are possible on weekdays.

A personal telephone conversation with Father Bartolomeo is required to confirm your reservation no later than 24 hours before the retreat begins. Your registration application must also be complete at that time and include your full name, address and personal telephone number.

Our retreats embody the spirit of Christ who sent his Apostles into the world instructing them, "as you have freely received so you should freely offer" and will include individual guest bedrooms. (Matthew 10:8). No payment is required or will be asked for. ( A modest good-will offering for the house's upkeep is acceptable but, again, is not required.)

The retreat house was originally an early pioneer one room house c.1709 which was enlarged over many generations into twelve rooms with six bedrooms and incorporates in its structure pre-Revolutionary, Federal, neo-Classical and Victorian architectures. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places the house was featured in the New York Sunday Times column "Great Homes and Destinations". This historic house rests in a pastoral setting of dairy farms and apple orchards sixty miles North of New York City..

For more information email me at FatherTomSays@gmail.com. PLEASE NOTE--My phone number (815) 793-7465 does not accept "unknown callers". You would need to provide a personal phone number, address and email address if you have one on the registration form. I will add your phone number to my contact list which will enable me to receive your calls. Unfortunately I receive many unknown phone calls daily and this precaution has become necessary. When I have your phone number then your call will be put through to me. I will also answer all voicemail messages usually on the same day or as you may request.
