Description

EVENT CANCELLED

Perhaps due to the unusual winter of 2018/19, growth patterns for non-native, invasive weeds in this region have been rather unusual this summer. As a result, at this time many of our go-to infestations are at the wrong stage of their growth cycles to provide a worthwhile educational experience. Though we scouted routes both in Tahoe Donner and elsewhere in Truckee, we ultimately decided that we could not provide a positive and effective learning experience this year. For this reason, the 2019 Weed Walk has, unfortunately, been cancelled.

--

Continuing an annual tradition for a seventh year, Friends of Tahoe Donner Trails will partner with the Truckee River Watershed Council to conduct an educational weed walk for Tahoe Donner members.

Tahoe Donner is an unfortunate host to some of the region's most noxious invasive weeds, including musk thistle, bull thistle, spotted knapweed, and perennial pepperweed. If you're a veteran of previous Tahoe Donner weed walks, this is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge, and if you're a novice the walk is the ideal introduction to invasive weed spotting.

Note

Participants must be 10 years or older and able to walk short distances over rough, dirt terrain.
