to West Central Florida.

Join us on the New College Campus in the Mildred Sainer Pavilion, Sarasota
on Thursday, September 20th for this free exclusive preview screening.

Our kick-off screening for the 2012-13 Season is Half the Sky.
Featuring an introduction by George Clooney and inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's groundbreaking bestseller, HALF THE SKY takes on the central morale challenge of the 21st century: the oppression of women and girls worldwide.

Community Cinema
is a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring free monthly screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens and other PBS presentations, bringing together leading organizations, community members, and public television stations to learn, discuss, and get involved in key social issues of our time.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested.

Doors open at 5:30pm - Film starts at 6:00pm followed by a panel discussion. Tickets may be distributed in excess of capacity to ensure a full audience. Please arrive early as space is limited and seating is not guaranteed.

MORE ABOUT THE FILM:

Filmed in 10 countries, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows Nicholas Kristof, Sheryl WuDunn, and celebrity activists America Ferrera, Daina Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union, and Olivia Wilde on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous individuals. Across the globe oppression is being congronted and real meaningful solutions are being fashioned through health care, education, and economic empowerment for women and girls. The linked problems of sex trafficking and forced prostitution, gender-based violence, and maternal mortality present to us the vital opportunity to make a change. All over the world women are seizing this opportunity.
